VISIT TO AZADI EXPRESS

OGS Heritage Club members visited Azadi Express on 06-02-2008 , a special train launched by the Indian railways to raise the nationalistic feelings and to bring awareness of Indian freedom struggle among the people of India . This train started in New Delhi in 2007 on the backgrounds of the completion of 150 years from the 1 st war of Independence .

The train halts in all the major cities of the country for 4 to 5 days to allow the people to visit the exhibition. The train after crossing all the northern & western cities, reached Secunderabad railway station on 2 nd Feb, 2008 i.e., on Saturday. The exhibition was arranged for all people ranging from students to elders from Sunday to Wednesday. Many schools along with students and teachers came to enjoy this precious experience.

It is a must see exhibition for every Indian & it is very unique way of expressing Nationalism which was practical & successful. It was a wonderful educational tour for the OGS students.

A Report on Wetlands Day Celebrations

‘World Wetlands Day' was celebrated on 2 nd February 2008 at Sanjeevaiah Park , Organised by Budha Poornima Project Authority (BPPA) and HUDA. At 7:00A.M Students walked around Hussain Sagar and were shown different birds in and around Hussain Sagar. There was an interaction with the resource person Saravanan (WWF) and others (Mr. Javed). After bird watching, the meeting was inaugurated by the Chairman of BPPA, Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy. He explained about the importance of Wetlands and Hussain Sagar. Mrs. Farida Tampal, State Director for WWF, Spoke on the Wetlands of India . She motivated the students in spreading the message of Protection of Wetlands. Miss Vanitha from CEE (centre for Environment Education encouraged students to spread this message of conservation of water bodies in the neighbourhood.

She also asked students to take part in ‘Save Sagar' programme. Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy showed a Map of Hyderabad and explained how to locate ‘Hussain Sagar' in the map.

He also explained about G.P.S (Global Positioning System and G.S.I (Geographic Information System). A foreign delegate ‘Cloud Martine' spoke on Global warning. There were Quiz and Painting Competitions and our student Divya Priya of IX C won a prize in Quiz. The programme ended with the distribution of prizes.

II. Students Visit to Prasad IMAX

Students of 9th class Neha, Juhi Agarwal, Siddharth, Harshavardhan and Shyam Babu to the 15th International Film Festival-2007 held at Hyderabad from 14th Nov 2007 to 20th Nov 2007 presented in Prasad Theatre.
They enjoyed the movies about 35 which are sponsored from many countries like Iran, China, Finland, Norway and India etc. Children took part in discussion with some great directors like Mr. Fena Zhenzhi from china, Mr. Khaja from Finland,
Mr. Ramesh Asher from India, Mr. Vinod Ganstra from India, etc.
Children gave their interview to All India Radio every day. They enjoyed those programmes very happily.

 
III. Visit to Nursery Mela
1.Students of sixth class were taken to nursery Mela on 13th August, 2007
2.They were shown the different verities of plants like floral plants, ornamental plants and different species of fruits and vegetables
3.They were also taken to milk chilling centre on 20th August, 2007
4.This trip was organised for the seventh class students(Nature Club Members) numbering upto 120
5.They were shown the different sections and were introduced to the incharge of that specific unit like

IV. Inaugural Dance in 15th ICFF by OGS students  
Students of 9th and 8th classes swetcha, Tulasi, Manasa, Diviya Priya, V. Kid for Tigers  Date: 5-12-2007
Students of classes V, VI & VII were taken to attend a programme “Kids for Tigers”, the sanctuary tiger programme 2007-2008. They were shown slides. Taught the importance of saving the “Big five” of India by resource person Imran Siddiqui and Mr. Rashid .Students of Classes VII, VIII & IX classes had signature campaign to spread the awareness about the importance of saving the “Big Five” the tiger, the lion, the elephant, the leopard and the rhino. Students of classes IV, V and VI had drawn and written slogans about the same.
 
PRESS RELEASE
Traffic Commandos Training is organized for our school children in the school play ground by Traffic Police Department. The aim of the programme is to bring awareness of Traffic Rules and regulations amongst them, thereby to implement it in the nearby traffic zones in the vicinity of the school. Twenty four students are selected for Traffic Commandos duty.

The involvement of students in such a social service activity not only facilitate the children to know the traffic rules and regulations but also a common man get attracted to the involvement of children, subsequently they may follow the rules and regulations. > NAKASHI-SCROLL PAINTING WORKSHOP

11 th March, 2006

OXFORD HERITAGE CLUB organized a One Day Workshop on “ NAKASHI SCROLL PAINTING” & “TOY MAKING” for the students of twin cites on 11 th March, 2006 from 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Children's World, St.No.11, Himayathnagar, Hyderabad-29 .

“Nakashi” Means a tribe is known for its new style of painting using the natural colors and earth colors to depict the stories from Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. This style of paintings was started at Chirala a small village in Warangal District. The style was practiced only by two families and still carried by them. Basically this style of painting was used to decorate the walls of their houses but gradually it spread to the walls of temples. The art includes the different styles of depicting the characters and using prominent colors. There is no mixing of colors.

Mr. Vedakumar the Director of Children's World said that, by recognizing the need of its revival Janapada, and Children's World organized the first workshop on “Nakasi Painting” 5years back at Children's World and later to make it known to the people of Twin Cities many workshops were carried out in time intervals. Now Oxford Heritage Club is organizing this workshop, he said.

Mr. Mudhusudan expert of Nakashi Painting and Mr. Mallesh expert in toys making are the resource persons and participated in today's workshop organized in the Children's World campus. 40 students from 20 schools of Twin Cities took part in the workshop.

Prof.J.Tirumala Rao, Director Oriental Manuscript library, visited the workshop and praised the organizers for their efforts in encouraging the traditional art which is on the edge of its disappearance. He congratulated the student participants for taking interest in learning the art and advised the students to carryout the glory of the art and to see that it come back to its existence.

They are trained in activities like maintaining kitchen garden, making working models etc., Besides these, eminent Resource Persons from various fields like A.P.Children Environmental Science and Action Congress, A.P.Pollution Board etc., are invited to increase awareness among the children and develop their science and Action Congress.

To improve creativity and originality many co-curricular activities and extra curricular activities are being taken up. Students are given training under the special guidance of experts in the field of crafts and drawing. Students learn activities like paper cutting, clay modeling, making models using cotton, shells, thread etc., which enable them to become multi skilled. Models and Handicrafts, which are prepared by students are displayed on important occasions. The students are also imparted knowledge of Dance and music in regular classes. The students are performing excellently on various occasions, which has fetched them many awards and certificates.

Literary Club

To prepare children for leadership, to give them ample opportunities for self expression and to enable them develop latent talents Elocution, Essay writing, Poetry writing, Creative Writing Workshop and debates are organised in various languages. This enables the children to develop structured thinking and presentation skills and to come out with creative ideas.

A full fledged Cricket Coaching Camp is being run by the school under the guidance of eminent coach. The students of Oxford Grammar School as well as students from other schools twin cities are facilitated to attend the camp every day on the vast school play ground. The regular practice matches are arranged to make them physically fit and technically efficient to participate in the tournament and link matches organised by Hyderabad Cricket Association and other reputed organisation.

Red Cross

Our school has become a member of Junior Red Cross Society in the year 2000. 35 students from our school are members of Junior Red Cross with the aim of inculcating the aims of organization. Up to date the Junior Red Cross of the school has involved its members in various activities like health camp, workshop on first aid, blood camp and promoting health education by conducting demonstration at health museum in public gardens. Students attend frequently the periodical meetings held in different schools of twin city.

Film Club

> RED CROSS :

The main aim of movie club is to impart education and entertainment through visual representation. It also facilitates children to participate in Open Forums, Dramatics, Animation, and Puppetry workshops conducted in connection with international children film festivals and other occasions regularly. Children are facilitated to attend film appreciation programs fortnightly organized by children film society, Andhra Pradesh. Classical Indian and foreign films will be screened during appreciation programs. The members of Film Club are given an opportunity to watch the screening of educative films and express their views. It's a very good chance given to children from various schools to come out with their opinions regarding the subject on which they want to watch the films.
