A workshop and an interaction session on Chittar art form was conducted by Sri.Ishwar Naik to the students of Oxford Grammar School on 13th October at O.G.S.
Ishwar Naik an artist from Uttara Karnataka. He picked up this art in his childhood from his mother.

Chittar depicts the life of the malnad people . It is a symbolic art that was done on cane baskets during festivals and marriages . The relationship between man and nature is the dominant theme.

Chittaras are wall paintings done by tribal women of Malnad , Deevaru community for special occasions such as weddings , festivals and other auspicious days . Portraying flora , founa and natural environs. The lines and patterns on these paintings each symbolize on aspect of nature or depict the religious , social or agricultural practices of the community . They show the scenes of daily village life, their ceremonies , deities birds of the region and the toys. Children play with.

He explained the harmful effects of using chemical colours and benefits of using natural colours in paintings . He said that this art is depicted on the mud walls of villages . He trained children to draw ‘ Madankai’ , ‘Pallaki’ and ‘Pappali’.

He trained students in a little span of time how to make Chittara paintings by using natural elements.

Oxford Grammar School constituted its cabinet in Investiture ceremony on 06.10.2012
( Saturday ) at 10.30 am in its school premises. Four elected leaders and 16 Sixteen students were declared as House Captains. Welcome song and song on Biodiversity were the highlights. School Captains were given the oath of Honour by Chief Guest Lt.Col.JV Bhasker.

Lt.Col.JV Bhasker has worked on many prestigious positions as an officer in the Indian Army , is right now an instructor in Military College of Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) and is also a qualified Air force test pilot. Head mistress gave a brief profile of the school Speaking on the occasion, Lt.Col.JV Bhasker expressed that wherever he visits a school he gets motivated and rejuvenated by the discipline , activities and confidence of the students. On being enquired, he advised the students to keep the option of army open for their future and he described the thrills and joy, which include this illustrious profession programme came to an end with Vote of thanks by the student Morya.D.

A song performed by Oxford Grammar School students on the occasion of Biodiversity COP -11 held on 5th October 2012 at Hitech CIty.

Dhanush Kumar of VIII Grade winning first consolation prize in the essay writing competition conducted by the Andhra Pradesh forest department at Nehru Zoological park.

As a part of the curriculum various activities would be conducted in the class. One such activity is the public speaking activity. Grade 1 students exhibiting their toys and spoke few sentences about them . this is done to improve their speaking skill and to remove their stage fear.

The Energy resources institute ( TERI) conducted workshops and competitions on 11.09.2012. Students from Vi – IX classes boys and girls attended this programme and were associated with , world famous environmentalist ROBERT SWAN , who evacuated 1500 tonnes of garbage from Antarctica with his team and also visited North Pole and South Pole.

Our school students received prizes from ROBERT SWAN for a skit on ENVIRONMENT, CBSE students – Dhanush ( VIII ) , Gurjeet ( IX ) , Preksha ( IX ) , >SDeeksha ( IX ) and Akshara ( IX ) teachers B.Venkat Rao , Mrs Sabera and Mrs. Nuzrat accompanied the students and attend workshop on craft , Refurbish , Eco – Jewellery and Shoe Painting , as a part of project SEARCH , Teri conducted this programme to create awareness and significance of Bio Diversity , Global warming , and wealth out of Waste

Art & craft work develops the creativity of the child . Hence regular training programmes are given to the Art and craft teachers . As a training programme resource person giving training to the students to enhance their creativity.

Oxford Grammar School celebrated Teachers Day on 5th September ( Wednesday ) in the premises. Senior students observed the self government day and went around in gorgeous dresses teaching their juniors. Quiz & Antakshari programme were organized by students of both SSC & CBSE wings to entertain their teachers speaking on the occasion , Chairman Mr.Vedakumar expressed that a small concern shown by teachers will would the children future quoting the example of great personalities including president Pranab Mukharjee thus highlighting the role of teachers in present world.

Mrs. Vedakumar , Mrs.Sulochana Rani gave among the mementoes to teachers as if is a usual practice added attraction was Leapstart , Physical activity group to which the school is attached to held dance session for teachers.

66th Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in Oxford Grammar School premises. Secretary Mr.Sayed Sabir hoisted the flag ,Director Mr.K.Prabhaker attended the function . Flag hoisting was followed by colourful cultural programme which included patriotic songs, skits on Alexander and Porus. Medleys and fancy dress by tiny tots.

The programme concluded with advisory messages by H.Ms. Head Mistress Fahmida Shameen

To help blossom the young minds , OGS has conducted a mass painting competition for Grade I to IX on 5th July 2012. This was one effort to help students explore and show case their painting talents.

All the students participated in the competition with great enthusiasm and vigour . This is a part of school's extra – curricular activities to help the youth develop and nourish their talents.
